EL Lamp Driver

Supertex (NASDAQ: SUPX), a recognized leader in high voltage analog and mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs), today introduced the HV841 and the HV839, two high voltage driver ICs designed to drive two electroluminescent (EL) lamps with a combined area of up to 3.5 square inches.

They deliver low noise, highly efficient backlighting solutions for dual LCD and keypad applications such as mobile phones and other portable devices.

The HV841 accepts a wide input voltage range (2.0V to 5.8V) and produces a nominal regulated output voltage of 100V to assure consistent brightness for cellular phones and other lithium-ion and alkaline battery applications. It also features a very low shutdown current mode to minimize battery current in stand-by mode, thereby prolonging battery life. Designs utilizing the HV841 require few external components, which not only reduces board space, but also lowers production costs for the end product.

Additionally, Supertex announced new packaging options for the HV839, a dual EL lamp driver with a nominal regulated output voltage of 90V. The IC is now available in lead-free, RoHS compliant, MLP and MSOP packages.

“Supertex continues to lead in the development of EL driver ICs,” states Ahmed Masood, Director of Marketing for Supertex. “The wide voltage range of both of these products allows them to accept TTL and CMOS inputs, enabling simpler, more costefficient designs.”

The HV841 is available in 10 pin MSOP (HV841MG-G) and 10 pin MLP (HV841K6-G) packages. The HV839 is available in10 pin MSOP (HV839MG-G) and 10 pin MLP (HV839K6-G) packages. All parts are Green and RoHS compliant.

Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4-6 weeks ARO. Pricing is US$1.12 for the HV841MG-G, US$1.15 for the HV841K6-G, US$1.05 for the HV839MG-G, and US$1.08 for the HV839K6-G, all in 1K quantities.
