Cold Shrink Electrical Joint

Tyco Electronics has introduced a Raychem Cold Applied Shrinkable Joint (CSJA) for medium voltage (MV) polymeric cable up to 28kV. This new product line features a unique all-in-one design and was developed for customers who have cold applied requirements.

The CSJA was designed as an all-in-one splice, as major elements (stress control, insulation, shielding and re-jacketing sleeve) are pre-expanded on one holdout.

The construction is based on a high-expansion silicone rubber joint body with fully integrated stress control. The silicone rubber body provides high dielectric strength, high tear strength, low tension set, and excellent low temperature recovery.

Electrical stress control is provided by factory moulded stress cones and a Faraday cage. Each splice body is 100% factory tested for corona extinction voltage and AC Hipot withstand per IEEE 404. High mechanical expansion capability allows for a wide application range. Minimal installation steps make for a quick and easy installation.

Kits can be ordered without a connector or with a copper ShearBolt connector. This initial launch covers splices for 15kV (4/0 to 750 kcmil) and 25/28kV (#1 to 500 kcmil) only. A full line of sizes and voltages will be available later this summer.
